San Francisco Antenna to Deliver High-Definition Video Over the Last-Mile
SAN FRANCISCO, 08/23/2005 -- TowerStream, the leading fixed wireless Internet provider, announced that Intel will use its wireless broadband service to support key Intel demos today at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco.
The demonstrations will rely on wireless Internet over the last mile from TowerStream's antenna on top of Nob Hill in San Francisco. One demonstration will utilize the eight megabits-per-second (Mbps) connection to play a high-definition movie clip stored on Intel's servers in Oregon.
"This demonstration will show businesses that wireless broadband can currently support any application, and that WiMAX will change broadband as we know it," said Jeff Thompson, COO of TowerStream. "We are excited to work closely with Intel to promote the capabilities of WiMAX technology and look forward to testing their new WiMAX silicon in our markets."
TowerStream is one of four US-based carriers working with Intel to enable a broad ecosystem around WiMAX, and will begin commercial WiMAX trials based on Intel silicon products later this year.
TowerStream delivers reliable wireless broadband to nearly 1,000 businesses in the New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco and Providence metropolitan areas. Companies can choose from reliable T1 and 100 Mbps connections, as many digital voice lines as they need, bandwidth on demand, wireless redundancy, VPNs, disaster recovery, bundled data, and video services.
