Soliloquy Learning, Inc. Appoints Jonathan Bower as CEO

Former CEO of Lexia Learning Systems Takes Lead Role in Company Developing Reading Fluency with Speech Recognition Technology

WALTHAM, Mass., 12/19/2006 -- Jonathan Bower has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Soliloquy Learning, Inc., a Waltham-based education technology company dedicated to helping elementary and secondary students become proficient life-long readers. Soliloquy Learning produces the Soliloquy Reading Assistant, an advanced reading program that uses speech recognition technology to "listen" to students read and to provide guidance when students struggle or make mistakes on specific words.

"With over 25 years experience leading companies in the high tech and education industries, Jon is perfectly suited to steer Soliloquy Learning to great heights," said Joseph Costello, founder and Chairman of Soliloquy Learning. "His dedication to and knowledge of reading skill acquisition and cognitive development is unparalleled at the executive level. As Soliloquy Reading Assistant continues to grow, there's no better person to lead a company dedicated to meeting the reading needs of schools and students today."

Jon served as General Manager and then COO of Soliloquy Learning during 2006 and prior to that served as CEO of Lexia Learning Systems, a developer and publisher of software to develop phonemic awareness, phonics and cognitive skills in students of all ages. Under his tenure, Jon expanded the Lexia sales network and product line, raised both private capital and major grant funding, and led the company's growth from 500 to over 13,000 schools in the U.S. and overseas.

"Poor reading fluency is the cause of many education and behavior problems students face later in life," said Jon Bower, CEO of Soliloquy Learning. "If a student can't read confidently, following homework assignments or answering test questions becomes an impossible chore, making learning seem like a burden. By dedicating ourselves to fostering reading fluency in each student at a reasonable cost through speech recognition, we believe we can make a lasting impact on education. It's this mission that I'm most proud to be a part of and am honored to lead."

Jon has also served as CEO of RTJ Medical Software, as the senior manager in the medical products group at Kurzweil AI, as VP Operations at Knoll International and as a Consultant for McKinsey & Company. Jon holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.A. from Stanford University.
