ROBYN MILLER, CO-CREATOR OF RIVEN AND MYST, FORMS NEW DEVELOPMENT COMPANY CALLED LAND OF POINT

Cyan, Inc., the Miller Brothers' Game Development Company, Will Continue Work Under Rand Miller's Solo Leadership

Spokane, WA, March 5, 1998 - Rand and Robyn Miller, the brothers who created the best-selling interactive computer games, MystÒ and Riven: The Sequel to MystÔ, officially announced today that younger brother Robyn has left his position at Cyan, their game development company in Spokane, Washington. Robyn has formed a new Spokane-based company called Land of Point, a development group with a particular emphasis on film.

"Now that the dust is beginning to settle after the launch of Riven, we're finally taking time to think about what we'd like to do next," said Robyn Miller. "Switching to a linear medium is an exciting change for me; I loved stories long before I worked in multimedia. I see this as a chance to finally pursue that long-standing interest."

Currently, Land of Point has two film projects under development. Both are in early stages and will not be related to either Myst or Riven. What will remain true to the Cyan style, though, is Land of Point's focus on creating projects that involve completely developed worlds with histories, cultures, geographies and societies.

"Rand and I agreed that these film projects would not be best achieved within the walls of Cyan, which is, at its core, an interactive company," said Robyn. "However, we intend to develop projects with an open mind to opportunities in other media, and to relationships with other media providers. One of the first and most obvious of these relationships is with Cyan."

Rand Miller will lead Cyan as it expands the Riven/Myst world into a variety of new product areas. "With Myst and Riven, we created an entire universe that's only touched on in those games," said Rand Miller. "There's an enormous amount of information that served as the underpinnings for Myst and Riven. To leave such a rich fantasy universe undeveloped and those stories untold would be a huge waste. The possibilities are too exciting."

Cyan will investigate emerging technologies, and will develop new ones, for use in the interactive entertainment arena. It will maintain its leadership role in the production of entertainment products of the highest caliber.

The Miller brothers are quick to point out that Robyn's departure is on friendly terms, and that Cyan and Land of Point already have plans for collaborative projects.

"Actually, I can't imagine us not continually associating and consulting with each other," said Robyn Miller. "We still get along great and have a tremendous respect for one another from a professional point of view. Most importantly, we are good friends and close brothers."

Land of Point currently has a staff of five employees, including Rand and Robyn Miller's younger brother, Ryan, who also worked on the production of Myst and Riven.

Robyn Miller continues as co-owner of Cyan and sits on its board of directors. Rand Miller has a vested interest in Land of Point.

Cyan, Rivenä and Mystâ are trademarks or registered trademarks of Cyan, Inc. Land of Point is a trademark of Land of Point, Inc.
