Institute Co-Sponsoring 25 Summer Interns for Valuable High-Growth Start-up Experience
ANN ARBOR, Mich., 05/17/2004 -- University of Michigan's Samuel Zell & Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies, the world's leading university-based center for entrepreneurial studies, today announced the start of its annual Marcel Gani Internship Program. The program, which began in 1999 with a grant from Marcel Gani, now the CFO of Juniper Networks, has committed $139,000 to pay half the salary of 25 student interns for 12-week placements at start-up firms with high growth potential.
The internship gives University of Michigan Business School students an opportunity to work directly with senior decision makers on issues central to the company's business development. Over the course of the summer internship, students gain first-hand experience in the dynamics of building a firm and positioning it for growth.
The firms participating in this summer's program are located across the United States, and represent a wide range of industries, including biotech, technology and venture capital industries. Each company receives subsidized assistance from Zell Lurie to employ talented, highly motivated MBA students eager to draw on their classroom skills to tackle business issues from within the host firm. The student's work is critical to the companies continued growth and stability.
"We're proud to be implementing Marcel Gani's vision of utilizing hands-on experience to develop effective leaders and successful entrepreneurs," said Thomas Kinnear, Executive Director of the Zell Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies. "This presents an incredible opportunity for early-stage companies to leverage top-tier MBA talent to work on business issues critical to the advancement of the company, and with the Institute paying half of each intern's salary, it is easy on their bottom line as well."
Following an application process that began in January, this year's interns have been assigned to their host firms and will be starting work throughout the month of May. Companies interested in participating in the Marcel Gani Internship Program are encouraged to contact the Institute for information on the Summer 2005 program cycle.
