Seminar to Bring Together the Business, Venture Capital and Entrepreneurial Communities of Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich., 11/08/2001 -- The Samuel Zell and Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies, the world's leading university-based center for entrepreneurial studies, will co-host the seminar, "Back to Basics: Entrepreneurship in Today's Economy" along with the Southeast Michigan Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth for the second year running. This half-day seminar will begin at 7:30 a.m., tomorrow, November 9, 2001 at the Sheraton Inn in Ann Arbor.
"The Institute sees this as an excellent opportunity for students to network among lawyers, investment bankers and business leaders within the State of Michigan," said Tim Petersen, Managing Director of the Zell Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies. "At this event business leaders are given the opportunity to address their specific interests and concerns in entrepreneurship and the students are provided the opportunity to learn about the many entrepreneurial activities taking place in Michigan and the advantages of being involved in organizations that bring these people together."
This year's event will offer two key-note speakers, David Hartmann, president and CEO of Avail Networks and John Paris, attorney and partner in the capital section at Williams, Mullen, Clark & Dobbins. Mr. Hartmann will discuss opportunities and trends in the telecommunications marketplace. Mr. Paris will address the topic, "Investment Capital Opportunities for Entrepreneurs in Today's Economy." Panel discussions will highlight strategies on how to successfully approach VCs, long-term strategic planning issues in family-owned and managed companies, or privately held firms, and integrated marketing strategies for growing customer value and profitability.
"At last year's symposium I met with some of the most prominent businessmen in Michigan, all offering insight and a practical perspective on what is going on within the entrepreneurial community in Michigan," said Adam Conrad, MBA2, an entrepreneurial studies student at the Zell Lurie Institute. "This will definitely be an event I continue to attend long after I've completed my MBA."
Cost of the symposium is $130 for ACG members; $150 for Ann Arbor Area chamber members; $195 for non-members; and $30 for graduate students.
