The Technology & Communications Practice of Deloitte & Touche Salutes 66 Fastest-Growing Fast 500 Companies in the Tri-State Region

Tri-State Shown as Second-Fastest-Growing Technology Region in Nation

NEW YORK, 11/14/2001 -- Sixty-six Tri-State companies have been included in the seventh annual Technology Fast 500 ranking announced today by the Deloitte & Touche Technology & Communications Group. The Technology Fast 500 ranks the fastest-growing technology companies in North America based on a five-year percentage revenue growth (1996-2000).

"The Tri-State Region continues to be one of the top-growing technology epicenters in the North America, second to Silicon Valley," said Noel Spiegel, managing partner for the Tri-State Technology and Communications practice of Deloitte & Touche. "With nearly one-third of the tri-state Fast 50 winners also ranked in the Fast 500 fastest-growing technology companies in North America, the Tri-State Region is poised for continued technological growth."

Medsite Inc., a New York-based company that provides online marketing and educational services to the pharmaceutical industry, is the leading Tri-State company ranking in the top 5 percent of this year's Fast 500 with revenue growth of 24,861 percent over the past five years.

GlobeSpan Inc., the second-fastest-growing Tri-State company in the Fast 500, provides integrated circuits, software, and system designs for DSL solutions worldwide. Based in Red Bank, New Jersey, GlobeSpan generated a 14,650 percent increase from $2,360,000 in 1996 to $348,098,000 in 2000. Overall, GlobeSpan Inc. was ranked #44.

Qualifying Criteria for the Fast 500

The Fast 500 list is compiled from three sources:

Nominations submitted directly to the Fast 500


Public company database research.
To qualify for the Fast 500, entrants must have had 1996 operating revenues of at least $50,000 USD and $75,000 CD for the United States and Canada, respectively.

Entrants are public or private companies headquartered in North America and must be a "technology company," defined as a company that develops proprietary technology which contributes to a significant portion of the company's operating revenues, manufactures a technology-related product, or devotes a high percentage of effort to research and development of technology.
